Dogs are better listeners

A Purina survey done in New Zealand found that 31 per cent of female dog owners believe their pets have better listening skills than their partners, and 14 per cent of men say their dog gives them more love than their partner.

Older owners tend to overfeed their pets, especially if they are overweight themselves

Researchers from the Glasgow University found that dogs were more likely to be overweight if their owners were elderly or poorerif the owners were themselves obese.

Dog bashed to death

A dog was found brutally murdered at a void deck. Witnesses place a man in his mid 30s to 40s as the perpetrator. He was said to have dragged the dog, a Pomeranian, to the coffeeshop nearby and requested for a knife. The hawker refused to give him one and the man dragged the dog away to the void deck. Seconds later, loud yelling and yelping was heard. Onlookers said the man was throwing the dog on the floor repeatedly until the dog died.

Pet toilets in airports

Despite being first rate, Changi Airport still has a pretty long way to go before it becomes pet friendly. Airports in the USA such as the following – Atlanta, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Washington Dulles, Washington National, Chicago O’Hare and Phoenix – have hopped on the bandwagon to accomodate the increasing number of people flying with their pets.

Do we discipline our dogs inappropriately?

The recent furore over a woman ruthlessly hitting her dog and being caught on camera has sparked a fresh wave of similar videos on Youtube.

Caning of children are frowned upon by many young parents as harsh and inappropriate, while traditionalists argue with the mantra “spare the rod, spoil the child”. Now that pets have become like children to many of us, which type of discipline method should we follow? Then again, are pets supposed to be treated like children? Do you think the lady in the video clip above would discipline her child in the same way?

For one case like that, many more probably goes uncovered. So what can we do to reduce such cases of inappropriate disciplining by pet owners?
